أَرْقَشُ
; fem. رَقْشَآءُ; pl. رُقْشٌ; Variegated with duskiness, or dinginess, and blackness; or the like of those two hues; applied to the [species of locust called] جُنْدَب: and the fem., applied to a serpent (حَيَّة), signifies the same: or speckled with black and white; and so when applied to a she-goat: or, applied to a serpent, it signifies one of the viper-species (أَفْعًى); because of the lines and specks upon its back: and أَرْقَشُ الأُذُنَيْنِ
having his ears variegated with black and white, and the rest of his hair black; applied to a kid.
2 Also the fem., A small creeping thing that is found in herbs, a variegated and beautiful worm, resembling [another small creeping thing called] the حُمْطُوط, speckled with red and yellow. Sgh., or his copyist, has corrupted حمطوط into خُطُوط.
3 Also the fem., The شِقْشِقَة [i. e. the bursa faucium, or faucial bag,] of the camel: or the شقشقة of the camel is sometimes رقشآء, having in it a mixture of colours.
