أَزْوَرُ

Full Definition

أَزْوَرُ Inclining; crooked; wry; distorted: [fem. زَوْرَآءُ:] pl. زُورٌ.
2 Having that kind of distortion in the زَوْر which is termed زَوَرٌ.
3 A dog whose breast (جَوْشَنُ) صَدْرِهِ) is narrow, and the كَلْكَل [app. meaning the part between the two collar-bones] projecting, as though his, or its, sides had been squeezed.
4 A wry neck.
5 [A beast] that looks from the outer angles of his eyes by reason of his vehemence and sharpness of temper: (TA: [see also زَوْرٌ:]) or a camel that goes with an inclination towards one side, when his pace is vehement, though without any distortion in his chest. [See also زِوَرٌّ. Hence, app.,] الزَّوْرَآءُ is a name of Certain camels (مَال) that belonged to Uheyhah Ibn-El-Juláh ElAnsáree.
6 زَوْرَآءُ A bow: because of its curving.
7 A bent bow.
8 A menáreh (مَنَارَة) deviating from the perpendicular.
9 A well (بِئْر) deep: or not straightly dug.
10 A land, (أَرْض, S, K,) and a desert, (مَفَازَة, A, or فَلَاة, TA,) far-extending, and turning aside: and أَزْوَرُ is applied [in the same sense] to a country, and to an army.
11 A saying, or phrase, (كَلِمَة,) bad, and crooked, or distorted.

def.2 Also زَوْرَآءُ [as an epithet in which the quality of a subst. predominates] A [drinking-cup or bowl of the kind called] قَدَح.
2 And A certain vessel for drinking, oblong, like the تَلْتَلَة.
