أَقْوَدُ

Full Definition

أَقْوَدُ A man strong-necked: so called because he seldom turns his face aside.
2 Hence, One who is niggardly, or tenacious, of his travelling-provision: because he does not turn aside his face in eating, lest he should see a man and be obliged to invite him.
3 A man who does not turn aside his face.
4 A tall, or high, mountain; as also مُقَوَّدٌ .
5 قَوْدَآءُ A road of a difficult place of ascent of a mountain (ثَنِيَّةٌ) extending to a great length upwards, or, reaching high.
6 قُلَّةٌ قَوْدَآءُ A tall mountain-top.
7 أَقْوَدُ A man who, when he applies himself to a thing, can hardly turn his face away from it.
8 A camel, and a horse, or other beast of carriage, and a man, having a long back and neck: or a long-necked horse, or camel: or long, or tall, absolutely, applied to a camel: fem. قَوْدَآءُ; and pl. قُودٌ: or a horse having a long and large neck. See شَغَبَ.
