Full Definition

أَوْفَاضٌ Parties of men: a mixed multitude: from وَفَضَتِ الإِبَلُ meaning “ the camels became dispersed: ” or poor, weak, defenceless people: or an assemblage, or a mixed multitude or collection, from various tribes, such as the أَصْحَابُ الصُّفَّةِ: or a company of whom every one has a وَفْضَة for his food, i. e. a thing resembling a كِنَانَة, of small size, in which he puts his food; but this explanation is disapproved by A'Obeyd [and by ISd]: or الأَوْفَاضُ applies to the persons called أَهْلُ الصُّفَّةِ, who were a mixed multitude from various tribes, consisting of ninety-three men.
