Full Definition

اجراهُIV He made it to run; said of water &c., or of water and the like. [Hence, اجرى دَمْعًا, or دُمُوعًا, He shed tears.]
2 Also He made him to run; namely, a horse and the like: in which sense مُجْرًى [as well as إِجْرَآءٌ] is used as an Verbal.Noun
3 اجرى السَّفِينَةَ [He made the ship to run]: in this sense, also, مُجْرًى [as well as إِجْرَآءٌ] is used as an Verbal.Noun
4 اجرى as syn. with جرّى; and اجراهُ فِى حَاجَتِهِ: see 2.
5 اجرى إِلَيْهِ: see 1.
6 أَجْرَيْتُ عَلَيْهِ [and لَهُ] I made a thing permanent, or continual, to him. [And hence, both of these phrases, in the present day, I made him, or appointed him, a permanent, or regular, allowance of bread &c.; I provided for him, or maintained him.]
7 [اجراهُ مُجْرَى كَذَا He made it to be like, or similar to, such a thing in state, condition, case, or predicament. He made it to follow the same rule or rules, or to occupy the same grammatical place, as such another. He made it to act as, or in a similar manner to, such a thing.]
8 [Hence,] اِسْمٌ لَا يَجْرَى i. q. لَا يَنْصَرِفُ [A noun that is imperfectly declinable]. (TA in art. صمت, &c.)
