Full Definition

اخلدهُIV , Verbal.Noun إِخْلَادٌ; and خلّدهُ , Verbal.Noun تَخْلِيدٌ; He caused him to remain, stay, dwell, or abide: or caused him to remain, stay, dwell, or abide, long, in a place: or caused him to remain, or continue, incessantly, always, endlessly, or for ever, in a house, or an abode, not going forth from it: or caused him to remain, stay, dwell, or abide, for ever, or perpetually, in Paradise, or in Hell. يَحْسَِبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُ أَخْلَدَهُ, in the Kur civ. 3, means He thinketh that his wealth hath made him to be one that shall continue for ever; that he shall not die: i. e. he acteth as one that thinketh, with his opulence, he shall not die.

2 You say also, اخلد بِهِ, He kept, or clave, to him; i. e., to his companion.
3 And اخلد إِلَيْهِ He inclined, or propended, to him, and liked him: he inclined to, and relied upon, him, or it; as also خَلَدَ . اخلد إِلَى الأَرْضِ, in the Kur [vii. 175], as also خَلَدَ , and خلّد , but this last is rare, and so is the second, means He inclined to, and relied upon, the earth: or he inclined, or propended, to the world; and relied thereon: or he inclined, or propended, to lowness, baseness, or meanness.
