Lane's Arabic-English Lexicon

اشاع

Root: شيع

Form: 4

Full Definition

اشاعIV , or الشَّىْءَ, or rather السِّرَّ, as in the L; and اشاع بِهِ; as also بِهِ, first pers. شِعْتُ به; He spread, published, divulged, revealed, made known, or disclosed, and made apparent or manifest, the information, announcement, news, narrative, or story, or the thing, or the secret. And اشاع ذِكْرَ الشَّىْءِ He made the mention, or fame, of the thing to fly [abroad, or to spread].
2 أَشَعْتُ المَالَ بَيْنَ القَوْمِ I dispersed, or distributed, the property among the people, or party; and القِدْرَ فِى الحَىِّ the [contents of] the cooking-pot among the tribe. [See also its pass. part. n.]
3 اشاعت بِبَوْلِهَا She ejected her urine, scattering it, and stopped it; but this is only when the stallion has leaped her, and is only said in relation to camels; and ببولها signifies the same: and in like manner اشاع is said of a he-camel.
4 أَشَاعَكُمُ ٱللّٰهُ السَّلَامَ, or بِالسَّلَامِ, or both, as also ٱللّٰهُ بِالسَّلَامِ, May God make safety, or peace, &c., [to light and abide upon you, or] to accompany and follow you.
5 اشاع بِالإِبِلِ: see 2.
6 [اشاعت is also expl. in the TA as meaning خرجت: but I suspect a mistranscription or an omission in this case.]
