def.2 آنِفًا means In the beginning, or first part, of this present time in which we are; from أَنْفٌ as meaning the “ first, ” or “ first part, ” of a thing: and hence what here immediately follows. مَا ذَا قَالَ آنِفًا, and
, in the Kur [xlvii. 18], means What was this that he said just now? or, a little while ago? i. e., in the first time near to us? from اِسْتَأْنَفْتُ الشَّىْءَ “ I began the thing. ” You say also, أَتَيْتُ فُلَانًا آنِفًا [I came to such a one a little while ago]; like as you say, مِنْ ذِى قِبَلٍ. And جَآءَ آنِفًا He came a little while ago; syn. قُبَيْلَ. And
