Of, or relating to, or belonging to, the sea, or a great river; rel. n. of بَحْرٌ.
2 A seaman; a sailor; as also بَحَّارٌ : and [ بَحْرِيَّةٌ and] بَحَّارَةٌ seamen; sailors.
3 [In the dial. of Egypt, North; northern; because the Mediterranean Sea lies on the north of that country: like as, in Hebrew,יָם signifies “ west; ” because that sea lies on the west of Palestine.]
