Full Definition

بَرَىI , first pers. بَرَيْتُ, Present.T ـِ Verbal.Noun بَرْىٌ, He formed, or fashioned, by cutting; shaped out; or pared; a reed for writing, and a stick, or piece of wood, and an arrow, &c.; as also : and بَرَوْتُ, Present.T ـُ. is a dial. var., used by some, who say, هُمَ يَقْلُو البُرَّ [instead of يَقْلِى].
2 And hence, Present.T and Verbal.Noun as above, He fatigued, or jaded, and made to lose flesh, a she-camel, or a camel: or it rendered him lean, or emaciated: and in like manner one says of a year of dearth or drought. And بَرَيْتُ سَنَامَهَا بِسَيْرِى عَلَيْهَا [I wasted her hump by my journeying upon her]: occurring in a poem of El-Aashà.
