بَرَّI
, [first pers. بَرِرْتُ,] Present.T يَبَرُّ, Verbal.Noun بِرٌّ, He was pious [towards his father or parents, and
2 بَرَّ عَمَلَهُ, and بُرَّ, Verbal.Noun بِرٌّ and بُرُورٌ; and ; [His deed, or work, was, or proved, good; or was well, or sinlessly, performed;] all signify the same. And بُرَّ العَمَلُ, i. e. الحَجُّ, a form of benediction, said to a person come from pilgrimage, May the deed, or work, i. e. the pilgrimage, have been sinlessly performed. And بَرَّ حَجُّهُ, Present.T يَبَرُّ, Verbal.Noun بِرٌّ or بُرُورٌ; and بُرَّ حَجُّهُ, Present.T يُبَرُّ, Verbal.Noun بِرٌّ; His pilgrimage was sinlessly performed: or was characterized by the giving of food, and by sweetness of speech; as explained by Mohammad himself: was accepted: was rewarded.
3 بَرَّ, Present.T يَبَرُّ and يَبِرُّ, Verbal.Noun بِرٌّ and بَرٌّ and بُرُورٌ, It was, or proved, true. [See an ex. voce أَلِيَّةٌ, in art. الو.]
4 بَرَّتْ بِى سِلْعَتُهُ, Verbal.Noun بِرٌّ,
def.2 بَرَّ وَالِدَهُ, [and app. بِوَالِدِهِ, (see بَرٌّ,)] first pers. بَرِرْتُ and بَرَرْتُ, Present.T يَبَرُّ and يَبِرُّ, Verbal.Noun بِرٌّ and مَبَرَّةٌ and بُرُورٌ, He treated, or behaved towards, his father with filial piety, duty, or obedience; or with ample obedience; the inf. ns. signifying the contr. of عُقُوقٌ: he treated, or behaved towards, his father with good obedience, and with gentleness, or courtesy, striving to do the things that were pleasing to him, and to avoid what were displeasing to him. And [hence, app., for accord. to the A it is tropical.] بَرَّ خَالِقَهُ, or رَبَّهُ, Present.T يَبَرُّ, Verbal.Noun بِرٌّ; and ;
2 بَرَّ ٱللّٰهُ حَجَّهُ, Present.T يَبَرُّ, Verbal.Noun بِرٌّ, or بُرُورٌ, God accepted his pilgrimage; as also : the latter alone is allowed by Fr: [though بُرَّ حَجُّهُ and عَمَلُهُ, mentioned above, are well known; as is the pass. part. n. مَبْرُورٌ, which see below:] and one says, [in like manner,] ٱللّٰهُ عَمَلُهُ [God accepted his deed, or work, as good; approved it].
