بَسَاطٌ

Full Definition

بَسَاطٌ Land (أَرْض) expanded and even; as also بَسِيطَةٌ : and wide, or spacious; as also بِسَاطٌ , in his explanation of which Fr adds, in which nothing is obtained; and ; and بَسِيطَةٌ : and in like manner, a place; as also ; and : and land in which are sweet-smelling plants: or ↓بَسِيطةٌ is a subst., as some say, and signifies the earth. You say, وَسَعَةنَحْنُ فِى بِسَاطٍ [We are in an ample and a plentiful state]. And بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ المَآءِ مِيلٌ بساطٌ [the last word thus, without any vowel-sign to the ب] Between us and the water is a long mile. [See also بَاسِطٌ.] And مِثْلُ فُلَانٍمَا عَلَى البَسِيطَةِ There is not upon the earth the like of such a one. And ↓ذَهَبَ فِى بُسَيْطَةَ, a dim., imperfectly decl., He went away in the earth, or land.
