Full Definition

تَصْدِيَةٌII signifies The clapping with the hands; syn. تَصْفِيقٌ; accord. to Er-Rághib, as being like the echo (الصَّدَى), inasmuch as there is no profit in it; or it is from الصَّدُّ, because they [who practised it in their worship] used to turn away (كَانُوا يَصُدُّونَ) from El-Islám; [see more in the second paragraph of art. صد;] and صَدْوٌ [an Verbal.Noun of which the verb is ] signifies the same; and so , of which AHeyth cites as an ex. the saying of Hassán صَلَاتُهُمُ التَّصَدَّى وَالمُكَآءُ [Their prayer is the clapping with the hands, and whistling: like the saying in the Kur viii. 35]: one says of a man, صدّى, or صدّى بِيَدَيْهِ, meaning He clapped with his hands; [said to be] originally صَدَّدَ; and بِيَدَيْهِ, Verbal.Noun صَدْوٌ [mentioned above], meaning the same.
