Full Definition

تَعْمِيمٌII The making a thing to be common, general, or universal; the generalizing it; contr. of تَخْصِيصٌ. (K in art. خص.)

def.2 عَمَّمْتُهُ I attired him with the عِمَامَة [or turban]. And عُمِّمَ رَأْسُهُ His head was wound round with the عِمَامَة [or turban]; as also .
2 And [hence,] عُمِّمَ He was made a chief or lord [over others]: because the turbans (العَمَائِم) are the crowns of the Arabs: and when they made a man a chief or lord, they attired him with a red turban. [Hence likewise,] one says also, عَمَّمْنَاكَ أَمْرَنَا, meaning We have made thee to take upon thyself the management of our affair, or state, or case.
3 And عَمَّمْتُهُ سَيْفًا [I attired him with a sword; like كَسَوْتُهُ سَيْفًا]. (TA in art. غشو.)
4 And عَمَّمَهُ بِالسَّيْفِ [He cut, or wounded, him, or it , in the place of the turban, with the sword]: like عَصَّبَهُ بِهِ, (A and TA in art. عصب,) and ضَمَدَهُ. (A and L in art. ضمد.)
5 And عَمَّمَ اللَّبَنُ, Verbal.Noun تَعْمِيمٌ, The milk frothed: as though its froth were likened to the عِمَامَة [or turban]; as also .
