ثَرْوَةٌ

Root: ثرو

Full Definition

ثَرْوَةٌ Many, or a great number, of men; and of cattle, or other property: or much, or a great quantity, or property; as also ثَرَآءٌ : and فَرْوَةٌ signifies the same as ثَرْوَةٌ; the ف being a substitute for the ث. One says, وَذُو إِنَّهُ لَذُو ثَرْوَةٍ, or إِنَّهُ لَذُو وَثَرْوَةٍ, Verily he possesses a number [of men] and much property. Accord. to IAar, one says ثَوْرَةٌ مِنْ رِجَالٍ and ثَرْوَةٌ, meaning A great number of men: but only ثَرْوَةٌ مِنْ مَالٍ.
