Lane's Arabic-English Lexicon

جَامِسٌ

Root: جمس

Full Definition

جَامِسٌ Grease, and clarified butter, and water, or it is improperly applied to the last, in a state of congelation.
2 A plant that has lost its freshness, or juiciness, and become old, and hard, or tough.
3 صَخْرَةٌ جَامِسَةٌ A tough rock, firm in its place. [In the TA is added مُقْشَعِرَّةٌ: but this is evidently a mistranscription, for مُسْتَقِرَّةٌ, which adds nothing to the explanation.]
