, Verbal.Noun تَجْرِيدٌ, He stripped, divested, bared, or denuded, of garments, or clothes. You say, جرّدهُ مِنْ ثِيَابِهِ, or من ثَوْبِهِ, as also
, and جرّدهُ ثَوْبَهُ, He stripped, divested, or denuded, him of his garments, or of his garment: [this is the only signification of the verb given in the A as proper; its other significations given in that lexicon being there said to be tropical:] or جَرَّدْتُهُ مِنْ ثِيَابِهِ signifies I pulled off from him his garments: and الشَّىْءَ, Present.T
ـُ Verbal.Noun جَرْدٌ, I removed from the thing that which was upon it.
2 He peeled, or pared, a thing; divested it of its peel, bark, coat, covering, or the like; as also
جَرَدَ , Present.T and Verbal.Noun as above: and ↓ the latter, he peeled off anything,
عَنْ شَىْءٍ
from a thing.
3 He stripped skin of its hair; as also
جَرَدَ .
4 It rendered the earth, or land, bare of herbage: so in the L and other lexicons: in the K, جَرَدَ : but the former is the right.

10 جرّد القُطْنَ, and , He separated the cotton from its seeds, with a
مِحْلَاج: or separated and loosened it by means of a bow and a kind of wooden mallet, by striking the string of the bow with the mallet: syn. حَلَجَهُ.
11 جرّد الحَجَّ, and تجرّد بِالحَجِّ, which latter alone is mentioned by Z and Ibn-El-Jowzee, He performed the rites and ceremonies of the pilgrimage (الحَجّ) separately from those of
العُمْرَة [q. v.]: or the former signifies he made the performance of the pilgrimage to be free from the vitiations of worldly desires and objects. [See also 5.]
12 جُرِّدَ لِلْقِيَامِ بِكَذَا: see 5.
13 جرّد القَوْمَ; and جَرَدَهُمْ , Present.T and Verbal.Noun as above; He asked, or begged, of the people, or company of men, and they refused him, or gave him against their will.
