جَفْرٌ

Full Definition

جَفْرٌ A lamb, or kid, whose sides have become widened, or distended: or a lamb, and a kid, that has become large, and begun to pasture, and whose sides have become widened, or distended: or a lamb, or a kid, that is four months old, and whose sides have become widened, and that is weaned, and has taken to pasture: or this is sometimes four months, and sometimes five months, after the birth: or a young lamb, and a kid, after it has been weaned, when six months old: pl. [of pauc.] أَجْفَارٌ and [of mult.] جِفَارٌ and جَفَرَةٌ: fem. with ة: or جَفْرَةٌ signifies a female kid that has become satiated with leguminous herbs and with shrubs, and is independent of its mother: IAmb applies it to a female lamb and a female kid; and this is correct, though some say that it is applied to the latter only.
2 A boy when his belly has become widened, or when his flesh has become swollen out, and he has begun to eat: fem. with ة [See شَادِخٌ; and see also مُطَبِّخٌ.]

def.2 A well, or a wide well, not cased, or walled round, within; as also جَفْرَةٌ : or, of which a portion is cased, or walled round, within, and a portion is not: the former of the masc. gender: pl. جِفَارٌ.
2 [Hence,] فُلَانٌ مُنْهَدِمُ الجَفْرِ [Such a one's well is in a state of demolition; meaning,] such a one has no judgment: or has no intelligence. And إِنَّ جَفْرَكَ عَلَىَّ لَهَارٍ [Verily thy well is falling in upon me; meaning] thy mischief is coming quickly upon me.
3 [The pl.] جَفَارٌ also signifies [simply] Wells.
4 And hence, She-camels abounding with milk.
