جَفَّI , sec. pers. جَفَفْتَ, Present.T يَجِفُّ and يَجَفُّ, the latter Present.T mentioned by AZ, but rejected by Ks; and sec. pers. جَففْتَ, Present.T يَجَفُّ, of the dial. of Benoo-Asad; Verbal.Noun جَفَافٌ and جُفُوفٌ, which are assigned by J and Sgh to جَفَّ Present.T يَجِفٌّ; It was, or became, dry; it dried, or dried up. Hence the saying, مَنِ ٱحْتَلَمَ ثُمَّ أَصْبَحَ عَلَى جَفَافٍ He who experiences an emission of semen in sleep, then rises in the morning with what is on his garment, of the semen, dry. And جَفَّ النَّهْرُ, an elliptical phrase, for جَفَّ مَآءُ النَّهْرِ [The water of the river dried up]. And فُلَانٌ لَا يَجِفُّ لِبْدُهُ Such a one does not remit, or become remiss, in his work, or labour: or does not cease to go to and fro.
