Full Definition

خَشِنٌ Rough, harsh, or coarse; applied to a thing of any kind; as also أَخْشَنُ : in relation to a stone, they seldom or never say otherwise than أَخْشَنُ: the fem. of the former is with ة; and the pl. is خُشُنٌ, [also said to be a pl. by poetic license of أَخْشَنُ, for خُشْنٌ, as will be seen below,] or خِشَانٌ, which is applied in the sense explained above to land [or lands]: the fem. of أَخْشَنُ is خَشْنَآءُ; and the pl. is خُشْنٌ. You say أَرْضٌ خَشِنَةٌ Rough, or rugged, ground or land. And أَرْضٌ Rugged ground or land, in which are stones and sand. And مُلَآءَةٌ [A wrapper for the body] in which is roughness, harshness, or coarseness, either from newness or from make.
2 [Hence,] A strong man. And هُوَ خَشِنُ الجَانِبِ and He is difficult, refractory, or stubborn; not to be coped with. And عَاشَ عَيْشًا خَشِنًا He lived a rough, or coarse, life. See also أَخْشَنُ.
