دِفْءٌ Warmth, or heat; syn. سُخُونَةٌ and حَرَارَةٌ; contr. of بَرْدٌ; or contr. of حِدَّةُ بَرْدٍ; as also دَفْءٌ and دَفَأٌ , Verbal.Noun of دَفِئَ, and ↓دَفَآءَةٌ, also Verbal.Noun of دَفِئَ accord. to the S and Sgh, and of دَفُؤَ accord. to Yz: pl. أَدْفَآءٌ.
2 A thing [or garment or covering] that renders one warm, or hot, of wool, or the like, or of camels' fur; as also ↓دِفَآءٌ: pl. of the former as above. You say, مَا عَلَيْهِ دِفْءٌ [There is not upon him any warm garment or covering, or anything to render him warm]: but you should not say, ما عليه دَفَآءَةٌ, because this is an Verbal.Noun
3 The shelter (كِنّ) of a wall [by which one is protected from cold wind]. You say, اُقْعُدْ فِى دِفْءِ هٰذَا الحَائِطِ [Sit thou in the shelter of this wall]. And دَفْأَةٌ [also] signifies A shelter, for warmth, from the wind.
4 The young ones, or offspring, (نِتَاج, S, M, Mgh, K,) and hair, or fur, and milk, of camels, and whatever else, of a profitable, or useful, nature, is obtained from them: so called because clothing, with which to warm oneself, is made of camel's hair and wool: it occurs in the Kur xvi. 5: accord. to I “ Ab, there meaning the offspring of any beast (دَابَّة).
