رَيْدٌ A ledge of a mountain, in [any of] the sides thereof, resembling a wall; i. q. حَيْدٌ: pl. [of pauc.] أَرْيَادٌ and رُيُودٌ. تَهْوِيدٌ عَلَى رُيُودٍ, meaning A resting, or sleeping, upon ledges of mountains, is a prov., applied to him who enters upon an affair [dangerous or] insalutary in its result.
