Full Definition
def.2 Also The sheath of the moon, which it enters when it is eclipsed, accord. to the assertion of the Arabs; as also سَاهِرَةٌ . One says, of the moon, when it is eclipsed, دَخَلَ فِى سَاهُورِهِ It has entered into its sheath. [Or] The shade, or shadow, of the سَاهِرَة, i. e., of the surface of the earth.
2 The moon itself; as also سَهَرٌ ; of Syriac origin, accord to IDrd.
3 The halo (دَارَة) of the moon: a Syriac word.
4 And السَّاهُورُ, The last nine nights of the lunar month: or so لَيَالِى السَّاهُورِ: because the moon is absent in its first part.
5 Also سَاهُورٌ, The source of a spring of water.
6 And Multitude; abundance.
