سيّرهُII , Verbal.Noun تَسْيِيرٌ; and ; and , Verbal.Noun سَيْرٌ and سِيرَةٌ and مَسَارٌ and مَسِيرَةٌ [or مَسِيرٌ, as below]; and بِهِ; He made him to go [in any manner, or any pace]; to go, or pass, along; to march, journey, or proceed; to go away, pass away, or depart: and بِهِ [for سِيرَ بِهِ, the reg. pass. form of سَارَ بِهِ,] is mentioned; like هُوبَ and كُولَ. And سيّر الدَّابَّةَ; and ; and , Verbal.Noun سَيْرٌ and سِيرَةٌ and مَسَارٌ and مَسِيرٌ [or مَسِيرَةٌ, as above]; He made the beast to go &c.: or الدَّابَّةَ signifies I rode the beast [and thus made it to go &c.]: but when you ride it to pasture, you say, , or اسرتها إِلَى الكَلَأِ or الى المَرْعَى. And سيّرهُ مِنْ بَلَدِهِ He made him to go, or depart, from his town, or country; expelled, or banished, him from it.
2 [Hence] سيّر He removed, or put off, or took off, the horsecloth, or covering, from the horse, or beast, or from the back of the beast.
3 And He made a proverb, and a saying, to become current; he published it among the people.
4 And سيّر سِيرَةٌ He related stories of the ancients.

def.2 سيّرهُ [from سَيْرٌ meaning “ a thong ”] He made stripes upon it; namely, a garment, or piece of cloth, and an arrow. And سَيَّرَتْ خِضَابَهَا She made her dye to have the form of stripes, like thongs.
