Full Definition

صَحَاI , said of a day, [Present.T يَصْحُو,] Verbal.Noun صَحْوٌ, It was, or became, cloudless: and so : [it is said that] صَحْوٌ signifies the departing of the clouds: [but] Es-Sijistánee says that the vulgar think it to have this meaning, whereas it only means the dispersing of the clouds with the departing of the cold. And السَّمَآءُ The sky became cloudless.
2 And صَحَا مِنْ سُكْرِهِ, Present.T يَصْحُو, Verbal.Noun صَحْوٌ and صُحُوٌّ, [He recovered, or became free, from his intoxication; or] his intoxication ceased; as also اصحى : and صَحِىَ, Verbal.Noun صَحًا; as also اصحى ; is [likewise] said of one intoxicated; both meaning he recovered from his state of insensibility; and in like manner both are said of one affected with desire, or yearning or longing in the soul; [and also of one sleeping, meaning he awoke: see an ex. of the former of these two verbs in this last sense in the latter part of the second paragraph of art. فرط.]
3 صَحْوٌ signifies also The relinquishing of youthful folly, and amorous dalliance, and of what is vain, or futile. Hence the saying of a poet, صَحَا القَلْبُ عَنْ سَلْمَى وَأَقْصَرَ بَاطِلُهْ [The heart relinquished, or has relinquished, youthful folly and amorousness by becoming rid of Selmà, and its vain, or futile, occupation ceased, or has ceased].
4 And one says, صَحَتِ العَاذِلَةُ The censuring female relinquished censuring.
