ضَفٌّ Narrow, or strait, and hard: so in the phrase رَجُلٌ ضَفُّ الحَالِ [A man whose state, or condition, is narrow, or strait, and hard]: and one says also رجل الحَالِ and قَوْمٌ ضَفَفُوا الحَالِ; but idghám is more proper.
