ضِمَامٌ

Full Definition

ضِمَامٌ , with kesr; or ضُمَامٌ , like غُرَابٌ; [the former app. the right, being agreeable with analogy, like رِبَاطٌ and وِثَاقٌ and إِسَارٌ and عِقَالٌ &c.;] A thing, or thread, string, cord, or the like, by means of which one thing is drawn, and joined, or adjoined, to another thing. One says, التَّقْوَى ضِمَامُ الخَيْرِ كُلِّهِ [Piety is that which draws and attaches to its possessor every good thing].
