Full Definition

ضَمِنَI , or المَالَ, and ضَمِنَ بِهِ, Present.T ـَ Verbal.Noun ضَمَانٌ and ضَمْنٌ, He was, or became, responsible, answerable, accountable, amenable, surety, or guarantee, for the thing, or for the property: or he made himself responsible, &c., for it; syn. اِلْتَزَمَهُ; and so, in this sense, تضمّنهُ , quasi-pass. of ضَمَّنَهُ: [as though he had it within his grasp, or in his possession; for] the primary signification of الضَّمَانُ is التَّحْصِيلُ: some of the lawyers say that it is from الضَّمُّ; but this is a mistake; for the ن is radical. And ضَمِنَ لَهُ كَذَا He was, or became, responsible, &c., to him for such a thing. And ضَمِنَ المَالَ مِنْهَ He was, or became, responsible, &c., to him for the property [received from him].
