Full Definition

طَالِبٌ Seeking, desiring, or demanding; or seeking, desiring, or endeavouring, to find and to get or take; or a seeker, &c.: [and used for طَالِبُ عِلْمٍ a student of science or knowledge:] pl. طُلَّابٌ and طَلَبَةٌ and طُلَّبٌ and طَالِبُونَ and أَطْلَابٌ [a pl. of pauc., like أَصْحَابٌ,] and طَلَبٌ , or this last, as is said in the M, is [properly speaking] a quasi-pl. n., or, as IAth says, it is either a pl. of طَالِبٌ or an Verbal.Noun used as such, for أَهْلُ الطَّلَبِ: fem., applied to a woman, طَالِبَةٌ; of which the pl. is طَالِبَاتٌ and طَوَالِبُ. You say, هُوَ طَالِبٌ لِلشَّىْءِ He is a seeker, &c., of the thing. And هٰؤُلَآءِ أَعْدَائِهِمْ and أَطْلَابُهُمْ These are the troops that are the seekers [or pursuers] of their enemies. And هُوَ نِسَآءٍ, with kesr, He is a seeker, or desirer, of women: pl. أَطْلَابٌ and طِلَبَةٌ.
