Full Definition

طَبَعٌ Dirtiness, or dirt: or, as also طِبْعٌ , rustiness, or rust, upon iron; and dirtiness, or dirt, covering the sword: or the former signifies much dirtiness or dirt, from rust: pl. أَطْبَاعٌ. (K. [See طَبِعَ, of which طَبَعٌ is the Verbal.Noun])
2 Also Disgrace, or dishonour; and so ; it is in religion, or in respect of worldly things. Thábit-Kutneh says, in a verse ascribed by Et-Tanookhee to 'Orweh Ibn-Udheyneh, لَا خَيْرَ فِى طَمَعٍ يَهْدِى إِلَى طَبَعٍ وَغُفَّةٌ مِنْ قِوَامِ العَيْشِ تَكْفِينِى [There is no good in coveting, or covetousness, that leads to disgrace: and a sufficiency of the means of subsistence contents me]: يَهْدِى in this case means يُؤَدِّى.
