Full Definition

طَرَّI , Present.T طَرُرَ Verbal.Noun طَرٌّ, He cut, or divided, lengthwise; slit; or rent; a garment or piece of cloth: and he cut [in any manner] the same, or some other thing.
2 He cut off a man's arm or hand, by a blow, or stroke; as also ; and so اترّ. He cut, or clipped, his mustache. And one says of a woman, تَطُرُّ شَعَرَهَا She cuts her hair short. [And app. She cuts her hair over the forehead so as to form what is termed a طُرَّة: see also 2.]
3 And طَرَّتِ الإِبِلُ الجِبَالَ والآكَامَ The camels traversed the mountains and the hills. And طَرَرْتُ القَوْمَ I passed by the people, all of them.

def.2 Also, طَرَّ, Present.T as above, Verbal.Noun طَرٌّ and طُرُورٌ, He sharpened a spear-head, or a knife &c., or an iron implement.
2 And طَرَّ He polished a sword.
3 And, Verbal.Noun طَرٌّ, He renovated a building. (K, TA. [In the CK, تَحْدِيد is put for تَجْدِيد as the explanation of the Verbal.Noun])
4 And He plastered with clay his wateringtrough, or tank: and likewise his mosque, or oratory, and decorated it.
5 And طَرَّهُ بِثَنَآءٍ حَسَنٍ, Present.T طَرُرَ Verbal.Noun طَرٌّ, He eulogized him. (TA voce خَمَّ.)

def.3 And, Present.T as above, Verbal.Noun طَرٌّ, He drove away; syn. شَلَّ; and , Verbal.Noun إِطْرَارٌ, signifies [the same, i. e.] طَرَدَ. In some copies of the K, [and in a copy of the A,] الشَّدُّ is erroneously put for الشَّلُّ as an explanation of الطَّرُّ.
2 And you say طَرَرْتُ الإِبِلَ, Verbal.Noun طَرٌّ, I drove, or brought, or gathered, the camels together, from their several quarters; like طَرَدْتُهَا: or, accord. to Yaakoob, I walked on one side of the camels, and then on the other side, to put them in right order.
3 And طَرٌّ signifies also The act of seizing, or carrying-off, by force; or snatching at unawares.
4 And The act of slapping with the palm of the hand.

def.4 As an intrans. v., طَرَّ, Present.T طَرُرَ and طَرِرَ the latter agreeable with analogy, [but the former the more common,] Verbal.Noun طُرُورٌ, or طَرٌّ, or both, It clave the earth: or grew forth, or sprouted: or came up, or forth. And it is likewise said of the mustache of a boy, and of hair in general; meaning It burst through the skin: some say, طُرَّ شَارِبُهُ [meaning his mustache grew forth]; but طَرَّ is more chaste.
2 طَرَّتِ النُّجُومُ, occurring in a trad., means The stars rose; from طَرَّ said of a plant: or the phrase, as some relate it, is طُرَّتِ النجوم, which means the stars shone; from طَرَّ meaning “ he polished ” a sword.
3 And طَرَّتْ يَدُهُ, Present.T طَرِرَ and طَرُرَ by common consent of the authorities on inflection, His arm, or hand, fell off; [being severed by a blow, or stroke;] like تَرَّتْ.
