طَرِيفٌ

Root: طرف

Full Definition

طَرِيفٌ : see مَطْرُوفٌ.

def.2 Also, and طَارِفٌ , and طِرَافٌ , [of which last it seems to be said in the supplement to this art. in the TA, that it may be either a pl. or a syn. of طَرِيفٌ,] Property newly acquired; as also طِرْفٌ and طُرْفٌ and مُطْرِفٌ and مُسْتَطْرَفٌ ; [and it is said in one place in the TA that مِطْرَفٌ and مَطْرَفٌ are dial. vars. of مُطْرِفٌ; but I think that this last word is probably a mistake for مُطْرَفٌ ;] contr. of تَلِيدٌ and تَالِدٌ [and تِلَادٌ]: pl. of the first and third طُرْفٌ.
2 Also, the first, A thing that is good [and recent or new or fresh]: what is strange, [or rare,] and coloured, or of various colours, [or pleasing to the eye,] of fruits and other things, مِمَّا يستطرف بِهِ [in which يستطرف is evidently a mistranscription for يُطْرَفُ, i. e., of such things as are given as طُرَف (pl. of طُرْفَة) meaning rare and pleasing gifts].
3 See also طَرِفٌ, latter part, in three places.
