عَافٍ

Full Definition

عَافٍ Being, or becoming, effaced, erased, rased, or obliterated: [&c.: see 1, of which it is a part. n.:] pl. عُفِىٌّ.

def.2 Having long hair.
2 A fleshy, plump, boy. And عَافِيَةُ اللَّحْمِ A she-camel having much flesh: pl. عَافِيَاتٌ.
3 And أَرْضٌ عَافِيَةٌ A land of which the herbage, not having been depastured, has become abundant.

def.3 Some broth that is returned in the cooking-pot when it has been borrowed: or عَافِى القِدْرِ means what is left in the cooking-pot by the borrower, for the lender. [See also عَفْوَةٌ.]

def.4 A guest: and any seeker, or demander, of a favour or bounty, or of means of subsistence: as also : pl. عُفَاةٌ and عُفِىُّ, both signifying guests, &c., as also عَافِيَةٌ; which last signifies also beasts, and birds, as well as men, seekers of, or seeking, the means of subsistence; and its pl. is عَوَافٍ. One says, هُوَ كَثِيرُ العُفَاةِ and العَافِيَةِ and العُفِىِّ [He is one who has many guests, &c.].
2 And A seeker of herbage. (K, * TA. [In the CK, الزّائِدُ is erroneously put for الرَّائِدُ.])
3 And A comer to water: and عَافِيَةُ المَآءِ the comers to the water.
