2 And [hence, app.,] العَانَةُ is the appel-lation of
def.2 Also The pubes; i. e. the hair of the رَكَب; the hair that grows above the anterior pudendum; or, [as some say,] above that of a woman: or, accord. to Az and AHeyth, the place of growth of the hair above the anterior pudendum of a man and of a woman; the hair itself being called the شِعْرَة and the إِسْب; though it is also called عانة by an extension of the proper meaning or by an ellipsis: the word is originally عَوَنَةٌ: and the dim. is عُوَيْنَةٌ .
def.3 فُلَانٌ عَلَي عَلَي عَانَةِ بَكْرِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ is a saying mentioned by Lh as meaning جَمَاعَتِهِمْ وَحُرْمَتِهِمْ [i. e., app., Such a one is over the collective body, or community, and those who are under the protection, of the tribe of Bekr Ibn-Wáïl]: and it is said to mean, he is manager, orderer, or regulator, of their affairs.
