غَسَقَI , said of the night, Present.T ـِ Verbal.Noun غُسُوقٌ and غَسْقٌ and غَسَقٌ and غَسَقَانٌ, It became dark; as also اغسق , said by Z to be of the dial. of the Benoo-Temeem: or both signify it became intensely dark. Hence, in a trad., غَسَقَ اللَّيْلُ عَلَى الظِّرَابِ i. e. The night poured down upon the small mountains and covered them with its darkness.
2 And, said of the moon, It lost its light, and became black and dark.
3 And غَسَقَتْ عَيْنُهُ, Present.T ـِ; and غَسِقَتْ, Present.T ـَ; Verbal.Noun غَسْقٌ, or غُسُوقٌ, or both, and غَسَقَانٌ; His eye became dark: or shed tears: or poured forth [tears]: or غسقت العَيْنُ means the eye overflowed with water.
4 And غَسَقَ الجُرْحُ, Verbal.Noun غَسَقَانٌ and غَسْقٌ also, The wound had yellow water flowing from it; and so غَسِقَ. And غَسَقَتِ السَّمَآءُ, Present.T ـِ Verbal.Noun غَسْقٌ and غَسَقَانٌ, The sky rained; or let fall a little rain, such as is termed رَشٌّ: and [the rain] poured forth; syn. اِنْصَبَّت: [and in this latter sense غَسَقَ is app. said of any fluid; for,] accord. to Th, غَسَقَانٌ is syn. with اِنْصِبَابٌ. [Hence,] غَسَقَ اللَّبَنُ, Verbal.Noun غَسْقٌ [and app. غَسَقَانٌ], The milk poured forth from the udder.
