فَأْوٌ

Full Definition

فَأْوٌ An interval, or a low, or depressed, place, (خَفْض, so in one of my copies of the S,) between two mountains: and, accord. to Lh, a cleft in a mountain, or between two mountains. And A وَطْء [or depressed tract], or وَطِىْء, meaning soft, or smooth, or plain, place, between two stony tracts of the kind whereof one is termed حَرَّة. And, as some say, A clear, open, space among sands. And, accord. to As, A low, or depressed, tract of good land surrounded by mountains, and such as is of an elongated form, and such as is not of that form. And A narrow place in a valley, leading to a wide space, of which the upper part has no place of exit. And A smooth place.
2 Also The night; so says Aboo-Leylà but of questionable correctness.
3 And The place, or time, of sunset.
