فَحْمٌ and فَحَمٌ , the latter sometimes occurring, like نَهْرٌ and نَهَرٌ, [Charcoal; this is what is meant by its being said to signify] extinct coal; a thing well known; as also فَحِيمٌ ; or, accord. to ISd, this may be a pl. of فَحْمٌ, [or a quasi-pl. n.,] like as عَبِيدٌ is of عَبْدٌ, and مَعِيزٌ of مَعْزٌ, &c.: the n. un. [meaning a piece of charcoal] is فَحْمَةٌ , but not فَحَمَةٌ.

2 [Accord. to the TK, it is an Verbal.Noun of which the verb is , Present.T ـَ signifying He drank in the فَحْمَة of the عِشَآء: but of this I find not any confirmation.]
