Full Definition

فَطَمَهُI , Present.T ـِ Verbal.Noun فَطْمٌ, He cut it, or severed it; namely, a rope, or a stick, or piece of wood, and the like.
2 And فَطَمَهُ, or فَطَمَتْهُ said of a mother or of a suckling woman, Present.T and Verbal.Noun as above, He, or she, weaned, or ablactated, him, namely, a child, or suckling. And فُطِمَتِ السَّخْلَةُ The lamb, or kid, was weaned, or ablactated. [And in like manner one says of other animals.]
3 And [hence, or] from the first of the significations expl. above, one says, فَطَمْتُهُ عَنْ عَادَتِهِ I [weaned him, or] disengaged him, or withheld him, namely, a man, [from his custom, or habit.] And لَأَفْطِمَنَّكَ عَمَّا أَنْتَ عَلَيْهِ [I will assuredly wean thee from the state in which thou art, or from that which thou art pursuing: or] I will assuredly cut short thy eager desire.
