فَيَّادٌ

Full Definition

فَيَّادٌ and فَيَّادَةٌ , in which latter the ة is added to render the epithet intensive, A man who walks with an elegant and a proud and self-conceited gait, with an affected inclining of his body from side to side. One says, فُلَانٌ يَمْشِى عَلَى الأَرْضِ فَيَّادًا مَيَّادًا [Such a one walks upon the ground] with an elegant and a proud and self-conceited gait, &c.
2 Hence, الفَيَّادُ is said to signify The lion.
3 And The male of the بُوم [or owl]: or i. q. الصَّدَى [which is also said to signify the male of the بُوم: for other explanations see صَدًى]
4 And فَيَّادَةٌ , or this and فَيَّادٌ, One who collects together what he can, and eats it.
