Full Definition

قِبَلًا I met him face to face.
2 لَا أُكَلِّمُكَ اِلَى عَشْرٍ مِنْ ذِى قِبَلٍ i. q. من ذى , i. e. [I will not speak to thee until ten nights] in what I [now] begin [of time]: or the latter, until ten [nights] which thou [now] beginnest: and the former, until ten [nights] of the days which thou [now] witnessest, i. e. beginnest: or the latter, of a time [now] begun; or, a future time. And أَتَيْتُ قُلَانًا مَنُ ذِى قِبَلٍ i. q. آنِفًا. (Lth in T, art. انف.)
3 قِبَلَ Towards. قِبَلُ شَىْءُ What is next to a thing: you say, ذَهَبَ قِبَلَ السُّوقِ [he went to the part next to the market]. لِى قِبَلَهُ مَالٌ I have property in his hands; i. e. due, or owing, to me by him; syn. عِنْدَهُ [q. v.] And لَنَا قِبَلَكَ حَاجَةٌ: (S in art. روى &c.:) see رَوِيَّةٌ (and عِنْدَ also).
4 هٰذَا الأَمْرُ مِنْ قِبَلِهِ This thing, or affair, is from him; syn. مَنْ تِلْقَائِهِ and مَنْ لَدُنْهُ, meaning مِنْ عِنْدِهِ. يَتَكَلَّمُ مِنْ قِبَلِ أَنْفِهِ [He speaks from his nose]. (JK and K, voce أَدْغَمُ.)
5 اِنْشَقَّ من قِبَلِ نَفْسِهِ It rent of itself. (L, art. صوخ, &c.)
