لَبَّةٌ and لَبَبٌ The stabbing-place in an animal; the middle of the breast: the pit above the breast, between the collar-bones; the place where camels are stabbed: (see لَبَّهُ:) or the bones [probably a mistake for the part next above the bones] that are above the breast, and below the throat, between the collar-bones, where camels are stabbed: he who says that it is the pit in the throat errs: [for it is just beneath the throat:] pl. of the former لَبَّاتٌ and لِبَابٌ; and of the latter أَلْبَابٌ. Also, both words, and , The place of the breast where the necklace or collar lies, or hangs, in anything; [i. e., in a human being or a beast:] or the pit above it: pl. of لَبَبٌ, أَلْبَابٌ. Lh mentions the phrase إِنَّهَا لَحَسَنَهُ اللَّبَّاتِ [Verily she is beautiful in the upper part of the breast]: as though the sing. were applied to each portion of it, and the pl. formed to denote the whole.
