Full Definition
2 A king.
3 المَسِيحُ [The Messiah, the Christ, the Anointed,] Jesus, on whom be peace ! [correctly] an arabicized word, [from the Hebrew,] originally مَشِيحَا, with ش: but the learned differ as to this word, whether it be Arabic or arabicized: F relates, in the K, his having mentioned, in his Expos. of the Meshárik el-Anwár, fifty opinions respecting the derivation of it; and in another work he has made the number fifty-six.
4 Also, or المَسِيحُ الكَذَّابُ, or , [The Messiah, or Christ, surnamed the Great Liar; the False Christ; Antichrist; also called] EdDejjál, الدَّجَّالُ: it is not allowable, however, to apply to him the appellation المَسِيحُ without restriction; wherefore one says المَسِيحُ الدَّجَّالُ [or الكَذَّابُ]; [unless in a case like the following, in which] a poet says
[When the true Messiah shall slay the false Messiah] [Many opinions respecting the derivation of the appellation thus applied are also mentioned by various authors.]إِذَا المَسِيحُ يَقْتُلُ المَسِيحَ
5 مَسِيحٌ Sweat: so called because it is wiped off (يُمْسَحُ) when it pours forth.

12 مَسِيحٌ One who journeys or goes about much for the sake of devotion, or as a devotee; as also مِسِّيحٌ and أَمْسَحُ , the fem. of which is مَسْحَآءُ. See مَسَّاحٌ.
