Full Definition
2 A stand for a lamp; a thing upon which a lamp is put: of the measure مَفْعَلَةٌ. with fet-h to the م; but by rule it should be with kesr, because it is an instrument Aboo-Dhu-eyb uses it, for the sake of metre, in the place of مِصْبَاح, in likening a bright spear-head, without rust, to a lamp.
3 Also, A candle having a سِرَاج [or lighted wick].
4 [A pharos, or lighthouse.]
5 The mená reh [or turret of a mosque, whence the English term “ minaret, ” so written in imitation of the Turkish pronunciation,] upon which the time of prayer is proclaimed; syn. مِئْذَنَةٌ, vulgarly مَأَذَنَةٌ [which is the form given in the CK].
6 [Any pillar-like structure. (See زُرْنُوقٌ.)
7 The perch of a hawk, or falcon. (See مَرْبَأٌ.)]
8 The pl. is مَنَاوِرُ and مَنَائِرُ: he who uses the latter likens the radical letter to the augmentative; like as they say مَصَائِبُ, which is originally مَصَاوِبُ
