نَبَحَI , Present.T ـِ and ـَ [the former of which, accord. to the Msb, seems to be more common,] Verbal.Noun نَبْحٌ and نَبِيحٌ and نُبَاحٌ and نِبَاحٌ and نُبُوحٌ and تَنْبَاحٌ, the last having an intensive and frequentative signification, He barked.
2 Also, said of a gazelle, when he has advanced in years, and his horns have branched forth: and of a he-goat, in coupling-time: and of a serpent; meaning he uttered a cry, or sound: also of a hoopoe, (هُدْهُد,) Verbal.Noun نُبَاحٌ, signifying it uttered a harsh cry, by reason of age: and of a lion, Verbal.Noun نُبَاحٌ, signifying he uttered a cry like the barking of a whelp.
3 نَبَحَهِ الكَلْبُ and نَبَحَ عَلَيْهِ, and , The dog barked at him.
4 فُلَانٌ لَا يُعْوَى وَلَا يُنْبَحُ [Such a one is not howled at nor barked at]: i. e., by reason of his weakness, no account is taken of him, and neither good nor evil is said to him.
5 نَبَحَ He satirized.
6 نَبَحَتْنِى كِلَابُكَ Thy revilings reached, or overtook, me.
