Full Definition

نَشِطَI , Present.T ـَ Verbal.Noun نَشَاطٌ and مَنْشَطٌ, He was, or became, brisk, lively, sprightly, frisky, active, agile, prompt, and quick; syn. خَفَّ, and أَسْرَعَ; contr. of كَسِلَ; or pleased, cheerful, happy, or willing; to do work, &c.; or by reason of his work; as also تنشّط , لِأَمْرِ كَذَا [to do, or on account of, such a thing, or such an affair]. You say also, نَشِطَ إِلَيْهِ [He betook himself to him, or it, with briskness, liveliness, sprightliness, or the like].
2 [Hence, app.,] نَشِطَتِ الدَّابَّةُ The beast of carriage became fat.

def.2 نَشَطَ, Present.T ـِ Verbal.Noun نَشْطٌ, He went forth from a place: he passed, or crossed, from one country or the like to another: said, for instance, of a wild bull: and in like manner, a star, [meaning a planet,] from one sign of the zodiac to another. And نَشَطَتِ الإِبِلُ, Present.T ـِ Verbal.Noun نَشْطٌ, The camels went, either in a right direction or otherwise.
2 [Hence,] الهُمُومُ تَنْشِطُ بِصَاحِبِهَا Griefs, or disquietudes of mind, lead forth him who has them [from place to place]. Himyán Ibn- Koháfeh says, أَمْسَتَ هُمُومِى تَنْشِطُ المَنَاشِطَا أَلشَّأْمَ بِى طَوْرًا وَطَوْرًا وَاسِطَا [meaning تنشط بى الى المناشط, i. e., My griefs, or disquietudes of mind, became such as to lead me forth to the places to which one goes forth, to Syria at one time, and at one time to Wásit]. You say also of a road, يَنْشِطُ مِنَ الطَّرِيقِ الأَعْظَمِ It goes forth from the main road, to the right, and to the left. And نَشطَ بِهِمْ طَرِيقٌ فَأَخَذُوهُ [A road led them forth, and they took it].

def.3 نَشَطَ الدَّلْوَ, Present.T ـِ and ـُ [Verbal.Noun نَشْطٌ,] He pulled out the bucket, or pulled it up, from the well, without a pulley.
2 And hence, المَلَائِكَةُ تَنْشِطُ الأَرْوَاحَ The angels draw forth the souls like as the bucket is drawn forth from the well: and تَنْشِطُ نَفْسَ المُؤْمِنِ بِقَبْضِهَا (Fr, L, K [in the CK تَقْبِضُها]) which means, accord. to Ibn-'Aráfeh, they loose the soul of the believer gently.
3 [Hence also,] one says of a she-camel, [likening the motion of her fore legs to that of the arms of a man pulling up a bucket from a well without a pulley,] حَسُنَ مَا نَشَطَتِ السَّيْرَ, meaning Good was her wide stretching out of her fore legs in her going along.

def.4 نَشَطَ الحَبْلَ, Present.T ـُ or ـِ Verbal.Noun نَشْطٌ, He tied the cord, or rope so as to form a knot; as also , Verbal.Noun تَنْشِيطٌ: or he tied it in a knot such as is termed أُنْشُوطَة; as also ↓ the latter verb: and نَشَطَ العُقْدَةَ he tied the knot so as to form what is thus termed: and نَشَطَ الأُنْشُوطَةَ he tied the knot thus termed.
