Full Definition

أَرْبَعَةٌ [Four;] a masc. n. of number; fem. أَرْبَعٌ . [Respecting a peculiar pronunciation of the people of El-Hijáz, and a case in which اربعة is imperfectly decl., see ثَلَاثَةٌ. See also سِتَّةٌ.]
2 ذَوَاتُ الأَرْبَعِ The quadrupeds.
3 جَآءَتْ عَيْنَاهُ بِأَرْبَعَةٍ His two eyes shed tears running from their four sides: or it means, accord. to Z, he came weeping most vehemently. [See another ex. voce ثَمَانِيَةٌ.]
4 أَرْبَعَةَ عَشَرَ [indecl. in every case, meaning Fourteen,] is pronounced by some of the Arabs أَرْبَعَةَ عْشَرَ: and [the fem.] أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ, thus in the dial. of El-Hijáz [and of most of the Arabs], is pronounced أَرْبَعَ عَشِرَةَ in the dial. of Nejd. (S in art. عشر.)
