أُسْبُوعٌ
A certain number of days; i. e. seven days; a week; also termed
سُبُوعٌ , by some of the Arabs; [and
سُبْعٌ , as shown by what follows:] pl. of the first أَسَابِيعُ. One says, أَقَمْتُ عِنْدَهُ [in the sense of أُسْبُوعَيْنِ, which is more common,] i. e. I remained at his abode two weeks.
2 Also The seventh day; and so سُبُوعٌ ; as in a trad., where it is said, إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمَ سُبُوعِهِ, meaning When his seventh day after the celebration of his marriage is come. [ يَوْمُ is used in this sense in the present day: and also as meaning The seventh day after childbirth; in which sense it is generally to be understood when used unrestrictedly; as this day is celebrated with more rejoicing than the former: also as meaning the seventh day after the return from pilgrimage.]
3 And Seven circuitings [round the House of God, meaning the Kaabeh]: pl. أَسَابِيعُ and أُسْبُوعَاتٌ. You say, طَافَ بِالبَيْتِ أُسْبُوعًا, and , but A boo Sa'eed says, I know not any one who has said this except IDrd, and the former is the word commonly known, and , and , He circuited round the House [of God] seven times, or seven circuitings; and ثَلَاثَةَ أَسَابِيعَ [thrice seven times, or thrice seven circuitings].
