أُسْطُورَةٌ [resembling the Greek ἱστορία] and أُسْطُورٌ and إِسْطَارَةٌ and إِسْطَارٌ and إِسْطِيرَةٌ and إِسْطِيرٌ sings. of أَسَاطِيرُ, which signifies Lies; or falsehoods; or fictions: or stories having no foundation, or no right tendency or tenour: (لَا نِظَامَ لَهَا:) [such as we commonly term legends:] or wonderful stories of the ancients: or their written stories: or their written tales: or their written lies: or stories embellished with lies; as also سُطُرٌ : or, accord. to some, أَسَاطِيرُ is pl. of أَسْطَارٌ which is pl. of سَطْرٌ: or, accord. to AO, اساطير is pl. of أَسْطُرٌ which is pl. of سَطْرٌ: or, accord. to Abu-l-Hasan, اساطير has no sing.: or the pl. of أَسْطُرٌ, accord. to AO, is أَسَاطِرُ, i. e., without ى: or, as some say, اساطير is an irreg. pl. of سَطْرٌ.
