Full Definition

استعرتVIII , and تسعّرت , [but the latter, app., has an intensive signification,] The fire burned or burned up, burned brightly or fiercely, blazed, or flamed.
2 [Hence,] استعرت الحَرْبُ The war [raged like fire, or] spread. And in like manner, استعر الشَّرُّ The evil, or mischief, [raged, or] spread.
3 And استعر اللُّصُوصُ, or استعرت, The thieves, or robbers, put themselves in motion, for mischief, as though they were set on fire.
4 And استعر الجَرَبُ فِى البَعِيرِ The mange, or scab, began in the armpits and the groins or similar parts and the lips of the camels.
5 And استعر النَّاسُ فِى كُلِّ وَجْهٍ The people ate the fresh ripe dates in every direction, and obtained them; like اِسْتَنْجَوْا.
