اقعدهُ

Full Definition

اقعدهُIV , and قَعَدَ بِهِ, He caused him to sit, or sit down; he seated him.
2 أُقْعِدَ He was affected by a disease in his body which deprived him of the power to walk: he was unable to rise: [as though constrained to remain sitting: see مُقْعَدٌ, and قُعَادٌ.]
3 أَقْعَدَهُ الهَرَمُ [Decrepitude crippled him, or deprived him of the power of motion].
4 أُقْعِدَ He was, or became, lame.
5 إِقْعَادٌ in the hind leg of a horse is Its being much expanded (ان تُفْرَشَ جِدًّا), so that it is not erect.
6 أُقْعِدَ He had the disease called قُعَاد.
7 أَقَامَهُ وَأَقْعَدَهُ, and قَامَ بِهِ , He, or it, caused him to experience griefs which disquieted him so that he could not remain at rest, making him to stand up and sit down. (See 1, and مُقْعِدٌ. And see an ex. in a verse cited in art. فنى, conj. 3.]
8 اقعد البِئْرَ He dug the well to the depth of a man sitting: or he left it upon the surface of the ground, and did not dig it so as to reach water. See also مُقْعَدَةٌ.
9 اقعد and إِقْعَنْدَدَ He remained, stayed, abode, or dwelt, in a place.

def.2 اقعدهُ and قعّدهُ (Verbal.Noun of the latter تَقْعِيدٌ) He sufficed him (namely his father [but in the CK, instead of أَبَاهُ, we read إِيَّاهُ,]) for gaining, or earning; and aided, or assisted, him.
2 اقعدهُ and قعّدهُ (Verbal.Noun of the latter تَقْعِيدٌ, K) He served him. [Ex.] مَا لِفُلَانٍ ٱمْرَأَةٌ تُقْعِدُهُ, and تُقَعِّدُهُ, [Such a one has no wife to serve him].

def.3 اقعدهُ آبَاؤُهُ, and تقعّدهُ , His ancestors withheld him from eminence, or nobility; [as also قَعَدَ بِهِ, and . You say also,] مَا قَعَدَ بِهِ عَنْ نَيْلِ المَسَاعِى إِلَّا لُؤْمُ عُنْصُرِهِ, and ما تقعّدهُ , and ما, [Nothing withheld him from attaining to the means of honour and elevation but the baseness of his origin]. See also 5.
2 وِرْثُهُ بِالإِقْعَادِ [His inheritance is by reason of nearness of relationship]. You do not say بِالقُعُودِ
3 إِقْعَادٌ The having few ancestors.
